Do not rest on your laurels. This is a common mistake and will take you ever farther from your true goal. All the good that you have done is good, but do not stop there. We are to go from glory to glory, not rest and stop and talk about the ‘good old days.’ First, you’re not done; you’re still here. And if you’re done, and still here, ask GOD what needs to be done here; why, say, for another tour of duty! There is nothing like serving The King of Glory. Nothing! To live for HIM, to die for HIM, to go to the ends of the earth, or across the street to an estranged brother, anything. Just talking about ‘yesterday’ and your successes, you are then often missing the moment today in serving, while tomorrow is becoming today as you live in your past. Do not rest on your laurels. Do not rest on anything, rest in HIM as you work for HIM. Interestingly enough, as you truly work in and for HIM it will give you a true rest in HIM. This is something that must be experienced; it’s sublimity. Another reason not to rest on your laurels is that it is often used as an excuse why you are not doing what you should be doing today for GOD. Your failures of today are in your face, so you talk about your successes yesterday for some assurance that you are ‘alright.’ Or that it is even enough that you have succeeded in the past, that is why it is okay to give up to now, and not continue. Your age, your weight, your height, your skin color, your ethnicity, your family, your spouse, your kids, your lack of family, you’re single, you’re divorced, name it… fill in the blank.. They are excuses, though they may be real, they are not holding you back without your permission. Let them go. Take that grip and hold on to your future. Forget your past mistakes, forget your past victories, Live here, live now; live. Live in the future. Press in and drive on!!
